ABOUT
CANON POINT: COB: Between episodes 33 and 34. The dragon trauma is SO fresh.
VISUAL: LINK
BUILD: Repeatedly described as scrawny by friends and foes alike. More muscle than you'd think under those baggy sleeves.
NOTABLE FEATURES: A dimple over his upper lip that makes most of his expressions look significantly poutier than they would otherwise.
ATTIRE: It's always going to be heavily green and always going to feature his signature yellow headband. It's also always going to feature the belt with the golden oval buckle that looks like a creepy old man when observed from up close, because it is cursed and will not come off.
WEAPONS: Shining Staff
VOICE: Voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga.

ORIGINS: Born in the small and boring village of Landkirk to a gruff and critical father and a doting mother. Helped out in his family's weapons shop until a wandering tutor of heroes stopped in to buy a sword. He immediately ran off to do something cool with his life, and travelled around learning magic from Avan for about a year. While he picked up some powerful spells, he wasn't particularly interested in anything that was difficult to learn.
RELATIONSHIPS: TBD

HISTORY: Birth Arc: Popp shows up with his teacher Avan to Dermline island so a young boy named Dai can learn all the best hero skills. This is mostly about Dai - Popp's role here is mostly to watch from the sidelines and refuse to do all the extra hard training to really sell how ridiculous it is, as well as serve as a benchmark for Dai's strengths and weaknesses. He's the normal person.

After a section of training that's left Dai with a new technique and Avan down a good chunk of magic power, the Dark Lord Hadlar himself shows up to pick a fight. Popp does not contribute to the battle here - his main contribution is repeatedly trying to drag Dai off to safety. Both students are extremely outclassed, but Dai doesn't care about that kind of thing, and Popp cares about that kind of thing enough for two people. Avan gives them both an insignia to mark a hasty graduation, and uses all of his magical power and life energy to hit Hadlar with the gnarliest spell he's got, Megante. He dies and Popp has to watch! Hadlar survives the spell and Dai's subsequent awakening of a mystery dragon power, but has to flee wounded.

Gathering Arc: This arc is about getting all of the Disciples together to fight the Dark Army and all of the Dark Commanders and the Demon King and the Demon King's even stronger boss. Popp is not into this, he's travelling with Dai but constantly affirms that he doesn't want to fight, and when he does contribute, he's not very good in a real battle outside of training. He's here for emotional support.

The big focus point in here as far as Popp is concerned is an incident in which Dai and their new teammate Maam go off to fight Beast King Crocodine, who is attacking the city they are in, and Popp refuses to follow them because it's scary and he does not want to die and Dai can probably handle it by himself. He eventually concludes with some outside pushing that being the kind of lowly worm who abandons his allies would be worse than death and unlocks a whole new tier of psychological issues. He goes after them eventually and gets the absolute shit kicked out of him, but also pulls out an insane strategic move that saves the day by negating some bullshit advantage on the enemy side and lets Dai get the finisher. These two things will happen with some regularity throughout the next 90~ episodes.

Clash Arc (Matoriv) (Hadlar round 2)

Destiny Arc: This arc is mostly about Dai learning about his origins. He has an evil dad who wants to erase his memories and take him off and raise him to hate humanity. Popp is, as always, extremely outclassed. Faced with the choice of staying quiet and never seeing his best friend again, or making a move and getting himself and the rest of his friends killed, he decides that if Baran is going to escalate things that hard, then so is he. He goes out exactly like Master Avan did right in front of Dai (complete with not managing to finish his opponent), which cures his amnesia and pisses him off enough to fight Baran to a draw.

(it would be really funny if I stopped the biography here) (hadlar round 3)

EXTRA SECTION: BLURB BLURB
PERSONALITY
ATTITUDE: Popp's a dynamic type of character who reacts to the mood but doesn't necessarily match it. He's capable of being polite, and tends to be well mannered around strangers he's not actively fighting, but his true self is a sassy little bitch who will mouth off even when he knows he shouldn't. His compliments are always sincere, and a good percent of the time he's insulting someone it's a cover for not wanting to admit he likes them for various flavors of like (his crush, his romantic rival, his mentor, his dad).
He likes to show off but is insecure about his accomplishments and defensive about people knowing that he's insecure because he doesn't like drawing attention to it. He's a dramatic and sensitive person, although to be fair, a lot of dramatic things are happening to him constantly, like demon attacks, and being in an elevator.

VIRTUES: Extremely serious about upholding what it means to be a Disciple of Avan. He's against stealing and looting, and won't even take valuable items off a defeated enemy unless they give him permission to take their stuff with their dying breath. He's very serious about his oath to never abandon a friend again. He'll do hard work if he has to but he will complain about it. He's capable of sensitivity and compassion and giving really heartfelt speeches.
VICES: Listen, half the biographies out there mention that Popp is a pervert. He's easily the second horniest character in the series, but it's a very mild series. There's a couple of gags early on where he accidentally touches a boob and gets slapped for it. He notices when girls are attractive and will comment out loud about it some of those times. He would love to touch a boob on purpose or get a smooch but the most forward we see him get is some red hot mutually consensual hand holding.
QUIRKS:
LIKES:
DISLIKES:
HOBBIES:

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

MOTIVATIONS: Popp is heavily defined by fear and even after he stops running away from monsters and danger this remains the case! He's afraid of what could happen to his friends without his help, he's afraid of seeing other people die, he's afraid of expressing his feelings or asking for help with things he feels he should be able to manage, afraid of feeling useless...
For a more positive framing, he wants people to view him as cool and reliable. That alone's not going to make him work hard, though.

FLAWS: Oh boy where do I start! He's a coward, self centered, lazy, rude, hot tempered, overly critical of others, and to top it all off, he's aware of his worst points so he overcompensates by being dismissive of his own accomplishments and by constantly running headfirst into danger without thinking about the consequences! Sometimes he thinks about the consequences and does it anyway. It is a mystery how he is alive.

EXTRA: BLURB BLURB
SPELL LIST
FRIZZ/FRIZZLE/KAFRIZZ: The bread and butter fire spell, at varying levels. It's a fireball.
CRACK/CRACKLE: Part of a line of ice spells. He hasn't learned the last one yet. It can freeze water that's already there, or summon a bunch of ice in a blast, or crystalize around a target.
GLIMMER: An incredibly useful purification spell! You draw up a sigil and evil can't get into it! He can't cast this one reliably. He had to break his staff and jury-rig it the one time he pulled it off.
RECLIMATIZE: Weather control, which he exclusively uses to call up stormclouds as his part of a combo attack.
SIZZ/SIZZLE: A line of spells that create heat but not fire. In the games, they differ from the Frizz line in that they're a multitarget variant.
ZOOM: Transports the caster and whoever they're touching to a place they can visualize and have been to before at very high speeds. It doesn't work in enclosed spaces like dungeons or houses, so it can't move you out of a jamjar RP situation either. If Popp isn't calm when he casts it, he and whoever's moving with him will end up crashing at their destination in an undignified heap.
LEVIZOOM: Flight!
DONK: Gravity control. Can stop someone from moving, stun them for a while, or even crush them to death. People with a lot of Aura (use whatever equivalent seems right for cross canon) do better, and heavy monsters like dragons do worse.
BANG: Another attack spell that uses elements in the air to explode.
MEGANTE: Concentrating all of your life energy into your hands, shoving your hands into someone's skull, and then converting all of that energy into destructive force. He's promised he's not going to use this one again, but he's broken his word before.
FIVE FINGER DEATH FLARE: Multiple Frizz type spells cast at the same time by channeling magic through individual fingers rather than the palm. This is classified as a forbidden spell because it dips into the caster's life force, which Popp is not aware of as of episode 34. He's seen it and can replicate it in theory, but hasn't done so in practice.

OTHER SKILLS: Basic hand to hand and magic wand combat. Wand combat is uh. You hit them with the wand. If a wizard is in a position where he has to use this, things are real bad.
His stamina and physical fitness are good for a mage, because he does a lot of unwilling cardio.

PERMISSIONS
BACKTAGGING: Yes!
THREADHOPPING: Maybe! Ask first!
FOURTHWALLING: Ok to clock him as using the terminology and spells and so forth from Dragon Quest the series, aka the common ancestor of just about every modern situation in which a hero goes on a quest to defeat a demon king. Not ok to ID him directly as Blorbo From My Shows.
PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Yes! Your character can even pick him up and drag him around if they like and he'll go along with it, this is blanket permission. He's so portable.
ROMANCE: He's hung up on a girl back home and is also extremely stupid about noticing if people have feelings for him. If there's chemistry happening with a character in game then he will be stupid about that, too. I love cross canon shipping but he is who he is!
MINDREADING: Yes... tell me if your character's doing it and I'll tell you what he's insecure about.
MANIPULATION: Probably! He's not a complete sucker but he's easier to trick than he'd like to admit. Tell me what yours is up to so we can coordinate.
FIGHTING: Yes! I'm for actual fights or just plain wrassling for the sake of physical comedy.
INJURY: Yes! Ask if you're gonna take out an eye or something lasting.
KILLING: Maybe! Only if he gets to go out like a huge badass and/or his CR is around to shout his name dramatically and swear vengeance.

Game: It is the dnd inspired one with the dragons!
Dragon: Senrik Tolkur, green dragon.
Senrik was always someone who could talk his way into or out of many things. Usually in his case, out of. He valued following his meandering curiosity above all else. He mostly fended for himself and found himself wandering from place to place with very little rhyme or reason, but his gift of gab allowed him to always find a place to rest his head with a fully belly. Not all days were good, but most of the time, he could manage. That was all that mattered to him in the long run- getting by.
Dragon Transformation Progression: One month in. He's growing small horns that peek out a little over his headband, and is developing patches of green scales here and there.
Two months in. Bigger horns, scales visible on face, bat-like wings growing in but usually hidden under his cape. Breath weapon: A paralytic gas that locks up the skeletal muscles and smells like cilantro.
Bonds: Check-In link
Total Bonds: 11 (10 oct AC, 1 quest)
Living Situation: A small cottage in the northwest part of town that he shares with Avan.

Notable Items:
A cup of nectar that numbs pain and refills endlessly, won from the Fae of Talahee forest. Shaped like a weird frog, with the rim of the cup as a big open frog mouth.
